VANE Platform gets Update with Planet Satellite Imagery Integration

VANE Platform gets Update with Planet Satellite Imagery Integration

We are happy to announce today that Openweathermap has partnered with Planet to provide access to current and archived Rapideye and PlanetScope satellite imagery in the VANE geospatial platform. Planet operates the world’s largest earth observation constellation of satellites and has the capacity to image the world’s landmass on a daily basis.

With this partnership, the VANE platform enables online processing and access to global high resolution imagery from Planet, further diversifying our Global Base Map product that currently offers publically available Sentinel and Landsat data.

VANE geospatial platform - Webinar

Please, join our first webinar about VANE platform on Apr 19
After the webinar program you can write your questions and get our consultation how to apply VANE capabilities to your project or business. We appreciate your participation and feedback!

Webinar agenda:

  • Introduction: VANE Query language
    • SQL fashioned API - how to build queries to process satellite imagery
    • how to get results into your web or GIS application
  • VANE analytic tools
    • indexed maps = VANE language pre-built operations with satellite imagery
    • Applications of satellite indices
    • JUPYTER with VANE language implementation as python environment to make a research on satellite data
  • Cases/apps:
    • Global Base Map
    • Weathermap
    • Agriculture: NDVI + weather history + forecasts (opt. tiggers API)

New color processing for MODIS RGB

New color processing for MODIS RGB

In VANE platform there are default color correction algorithms for particular satellite imagery sets. We are continuously working on improving these basic algorithms and now there is one more for MODIS daily imagery with atmospheric and gamma correction. Now the MODIS mosaic looks more smooth and seamless, especially at the edges of stripes.

To preview MODIS and switch between single layers that constitute the mosaic  - go to http://owm.io/modis
To learn more how to get this online mosaic to use it on your side for integration into your application - find examples and detailed descriptions at workouts section.

VANE presentation at Precise farming conference

VANE presentation at Precise farming conference

Last week OWM took part at "Precise Farming" conference in Skolkovo Innovation center. Georgy Potapov told about VANE capabilities to provide developers of agriculture applications with most recent NDVI maps, weather maps and historical data API.

Here is our presentation from the event. If you are interested in the development of some kind of agriculture applications and smart farming solutions, we suggest you considering the use of Global Base Map which is freely available and let you start fast.

And for more information on this matter check agri-workouts section.

Global Base Map - VANE language implementation

Global Base Map - VANE language implementation

What could be even more fascinating about Global Satellite Map - you get it not only in one RGB state, like “True Color” (as we get used to browsing web-mapping services), or not only in the provided number of presets that are available at the description page, but with all capabilities that are brought to you by the power of VANE SQL Language - select, combine, apply colors and more.

VANE Global Base Map

VANE Global Base Map

The product we are launching today continues our freemium strategy - Global Base Map (#satmap). It’s available as a part of  VANE platform and opens the easiest way to start working with satellite imagery and connect it to your own application.

Go to Base Map description

You can choose from a number of presets that provides imagery in a way most fitting for your project. And as a result, you get the tile URL to connect maps to your client apps with the instant access.

Global Base Map - Terra and Aqua layers

Global Base Map - Terra and Aqua layers

Operative Terra imagery for the current date (13 march) combined with precipitation layer - both layers are generated on the top of VANE platform

As a part of Global Base Map plan, that is a much easier way to start to work with satellite imagery and services, we added low resolution imagery from Aqua and Terra satellites (aka MODIS). This kind of imagery enables Earth observation on a daily and hourly time basis and can be vividly combined with weather layers - (previously we’ve posted about this part of the work on our blog). The delay between satellite overpasses and a publication of the imagery is about 2 hours, this is the minimum time delay for Web Mercator version of this kind of satellite imagery, yet we look forward to reducing this time. About every 30 minutes new imagery comes from each of satellites.

Weather Historical Bulk is launched!

Weather Historical Bulk is launched!

We are happy to introduce you our new service which provides weather historical data for more than 30,000 cities for the last 5 years.

Now you can simply choose a city (or several cities) and download an archive, which contains bulk file with the weather history up to 5 years - any day, week or even several years.
Pricing is simple and easy - just $10 for one city, no matter how much data will you receive http://openweathermap.org/price. Just sign in and place an order on your personal page https://home.openweathermap.org/history_bulks/new. Please note that our traditional History API stays the same.

History weather API update

History weather API update

We have updated our history weather API and it has become better. Now we have much more data, filled some gaps, and our VANE platform is able to process it faster. Data is available per 1-hour time steps. You can get history API for more than 30 000 cities!

You can subscribe to our history weather API here  http://openweathermap.org/price. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us and provide your feedback here  https://openweathermap.desk.com/
